As a Colonel in the United States Air Force, I was the founding Chief Medical Officer of the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU). At DIU, I worked to accelerate the transition of commercial innovation and technology into the hands of our service members across a wide range of topics including survivability, biotechnology, cybersecurity, telecommunications, prevention of combat injuries, training & simulation.

In addition, I am a practicing physician with the Johns Hopkins Health system as well as Stanford Children's Health, where I am a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatric Gastroenterology. As a medical researcher, I was invited to join NATO’s personalized medicine and performance subcommittee, and collaborated on international projects using wearable technology to help with pre-symptomatic identification of disease.

I have an M.D. from the Medical College of Ohio. I completed my residency at the David Grant Medical Center and a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. My Bachelor's degree is in Molecular Biology from Kenyon College.
